3 Unique Jobs in Residential Care

At houseparent.com, of course we’re all about houseparent jobs! But while many employers are looking for married couples for full-time houseparent roles, there are also occasional roles in residential care that don’t fit the typical mold.  

While these roles share many characteristics with houseparent job descriptions, like working with youth and living in a residential care environment, they’re often different from the houseparent role in significant ways—like the schedule, job duties, and marital status required.

Home Life Administrator – Milton Hershey School (Pennsylvania)

MHS is currently seekingHome Life Administrators (HLAs). The HLA provides leadership and support to MHS’s full- and part-time Houseparents (the school’s residential caretakers of the Pre-K through 12th grade students). In addition to the daily supervision of the residential staff, HLAs collaborate within the Home LifeDepartment and throughout the school to ensure safe and smooth operations and positive student outcomes.

Situational Houseparents – Goshen Valley Boys Ranch (Georgia) 

The “Situational Houseparents” role at GoshenValley is a training position that allows you to learn alongside veteran houseparents while providing support in residential homes and filling in as a relief houseparent as needed. Examples of the work include assisting in the homes during busy evening hours, providing on-call emergency support as needed, and providing transportation to youth for various appointments. Goshen Valley is ranked a top employer by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and is currently hiring for multiple residential roles!

Flex Transitional Living Assistants – Milton Hershey School (Pennsylvania)

MHS is hiringFlex Transitional Living Assistants (FTLA) to live with and supervise high school seniors. FTLA’s mentor MHS seniors to ensure they develop the life skills necessary for success post-graduation – whether they are entering post-secondary education, the military, or the world of work. FTLAs are individuals rather than married couples, but have many of the same duties as traditional houseparents.
